Committee Recommendations
The Shire’s Audit and Risk Committee met on 19 March 2025 and provided recommendations for Council endorsement or otherwise. Items presented were: the Policy Manual Review; Quarterly Reporting and Integrated Strategic Plan; Review of Management, Risk and Compliance Controls; the Shire Risk Profile Report; and annual Compliance Audit Review.
Announcements by President Jannah Stratford
The President offered congratulations to the Koorda CRC committee and staff on the skate park workshop and Community Volunteers event on 8 March and congratulated the Mount Marshall Agricultural Society on their Agricultural Show on 15 March, along with the Community Garden for hosting the Market Day on 22 March. Cr Stratford also offered commiserations to Cougars Cricket Club on losing the season grand final in Goomalling.
Corporate and Community
Council was presented for review and endorsement or otherwise the Shire’s Monthly Financial Statements; List of Accounts Paid and the Mid-year Budget Review which projected the Shire would achieve a small end of year surplus.
Governance and Compliance
With the resignation of Cr Kylie Burrell Council was required to reallocate positions on four of its committees and request from the Electoral Commissioner to hold the election for the vacant position at the general local government elections in October. If approved, the Shire will have five of its seven positions on Council open to election in October.
Council endorsed an update on five of the Shire’s policies which included reviewing the Community Grants Program policy to ensure it remained relevant along with various administrative changes, among them removing references to COVID 19.
The Shire has begun a six-week consultation period (which will end on 8 May) for a new Caravan Park Local Law being approved by Council. It aims to set out the regulation, control and management of the facility and establish rules for entry and use including penalties for non-compliance. Works and Asset
Council has endorsed that, whenever practical, the Shire of Koorda residents will be given the first opportunity to purchase any vehicles and plant that are to be replaced by a process in which the Shire will advertise the minimum price (based on valuations including trade-in quotes) and take confidential bids from the community over a two-week period.
The Shire has made an application to the Federal Government’s Disaster Ready Fund for three new trailable resources to assist fire and emergency response and the community. For a 10 per cent contribution the Shire has applied to secure a mobile CCTV platform, a mobile Phone Booster tower; and a mobile Kitchen and Barbecue, all of which could be deployed as needed to support emergency services and volunteers and to assist with community events.
