The Shire President extended condolences to; the Storer family on the passing of Joy, the Greenham family on the passing of Myrna, the Petchell family on the passing of Max, the Moran family on the passing of Phil, the Burton family on the passing of Pat and the Hillier family on the passing of Rick.
Restoring Tyre Shop Veranda
Council supported a development application to rebuild a veranda in front of the former tyre shop at 18 Allenby Street. As the proposed veranda will extend onto the road verge, which is Crown land, the proponents will be required as a condition of the approval, to provide the Shire with evidence of public liability insurance for the veranda so as to reduce the risk to the Shire and ratepayers. Similar properties within the shire townsite that encroach onto Crown reserves will also be asked to provide public liability insurance.
Budget Workshop Outcomes
Council endorsed the underlying assumptions and projects defined as part of the development of the Shire of Koorda 2026-27 Budget. Projects selected by Council, following an earlier Budget Workshop, were the restoration and improvement of the Koorda Drive-In which will include improved access for people with disabilities, a new playground at the Recreation Centre, Starlink units for each of the shire’s volunteer bushfire vehicles, blinds for the Recreation Centre and a new forklift ramp. The Shire is seeking grant funding support for the Drive-In and playground projects to lessen the requirement to draw on reserves.
New Fees and Charges
Also, as part of finalising the Shire Budget, Council endorsed the schedule of new fees and charges which included for the first time the application of an industry-based matrix for the calculation of rental charges for shire properties. The result are rental charges more aligned with market rates and calculated to consider the size of the shire property being rented, it’s condition and features to ensure fairness to tenants. Since the meeting letters have been sent to all tenants of Shire properties advising of the change to their specific property rental. In other changes, the entry fees for the Drive-In were set at $20 for adults and $10 for children with most other Shire charges adjusted by a five per cent increase.
Signage Approval
In concert with setting the fees and charges, a new fee was introduced for owners of permanent signs on Shire roadsides. The new fee of $100 per annum is for fixed signs only and is part of a new policy adopted earlier by Council to help monitor and manager roadside signage on Crown reserves. The policy also applies to owners of smaller temporary signs, largely used by local businesses to direct customers to their premises. There is no fee for these signs however owners are required to advise the shire of the sizes and the content. Correspondence was sent to all shire business operators as to the requirements and a copy of the new policy.
Meeting closed at 6.49pm
