Announcements by President Jannah Stratford

The Shire President Cr Jannah Stratford offered condolences to the Kais family for the death of Steven and the Gearing family on the passing of Nancy.

The President also congratulated the Koorda Bowls Club for their first win for the season and thanked the volunteers, in particular the ambulance and bushfire volunteers. She said that it was volunteers that made a community and thanked them for their contribution. Cr Stratford then wished the community a Merry Christmas and all the best for a bigger and better New Year.

Koorda Community Grants

Council endorsed the recommendations of the Community Grants Committee to award $5000 to the Koorda Cougars Cricket Club to assist with repairs to the playing surface; $5000 to the Koorda St John Ambulance for a dedicated and compliant medication storage room; $1885.40 for the Koorda Ladies Hockey Club to purchase floorball equipment for preseason training and provide and to help develop interest in hockey with new players; and $1356.55 for the Koorda Bowls Clubs for new rink markers for the new bowling green.

2024-2025 Shire of Koorda Annual Report

The first meeting of the newly named Audit Risk and Improvement Committee met for the first time with new independent chair Mt Ron Back. Among the items of business was the recommendation that Council adopt the 2024-2025 Annual Report, Annual Financial Statements and Auditors Return and set the Annual Electors Meeting for 2 February 2026. The recommendation was endorsed by Council with a copy of the Annual Report available on the shire website.

Shire Acquisition of Housing Units

Council has endorsed the purchase of the four units and surrounding land at 6 Greenham Street from regional housing developer CEACA. The units were originally built in 2019 by CEACA in partnership with the shire to access Royalties for Regions funding. The purchase of the units is set to settled on 15 January. The land surrounding the units has the capacity for the shire to develop five more lots for similar sized units when funding becomes available.

NEWROC MOU Extension

Council has endorsed a two-year extension of the Memorandum of Understanding for its membership to the North Eastern Wheatbelt Regional Organisation of Councils. The role of NEWROC is to leverage the combined capacity of the sires of Koorda, Dowerin, Mount Marshall, Mukinbudin, Nungarin, Trayning and Wyalkatchem for economic development, regional initiatives and funding access. The new MOU will run from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028.
